{"id":926,"date":"2019-04-15T08:28:24","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T07:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cool-banzai.185-132-38-6.plesk.page\/?p=926"},"modified":"2019-04-15T08:28:26","modified_gmt":"2019-04-15T07:28:26","slug":"all-grown-up-moniaive-folk-festival-to-celebrate-its-18th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cool-banzai.185-132-38-6.plesk.page\/?p=926","title":{"rendered":"All Grown Up \u2013 Moniaive Folk Festival to Celebrate its 18th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A tiny Scottish village is offering its annual invitation for music lovers to come along and enjoy the some of the best sounds on the folk circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Moniaive Folk Festival, which celebrates its 18<sup>th<\/sup>anniversary from 10 to 12 May, is a much-loved feature in the country\u2019s live music calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year it offers a chance to hear the wonderful sounds of bands and musicians such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Scottish power trio OBT (Oakes, Bews, Thorpe)<\/li><li>The foot-stomping Sheelanagig<\/li><li>Findlay Napier, with songs laced with sadness, joy, melancholy and anger<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/kinnarisquintet.com\/\">Kinnaris Quintet<\/a> \u2013 who are currently storming the trad scene\u00a0<em>(see picture)<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Festival director Stuart Macpherson said:<\/strong>\u201cOur wee village is looking forward to welcoming everyone for the 18<sup>th<\/sup>Moniaive Folk Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the years it\u2019s grown into a really popular event, with fans coming from all over the country, and the world, to enjoy some of the finest folk sounds around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut one of the best things is that it has never lost the friendliness and intimacy that makes it so special.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd nowadays it\u2019s more than just a music festival, it\u2019s a whole weekend of entertainment, with lots of family friendly activities from puppet theatre to a costumed parade.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The family-friendly attractions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>All weekend&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Spotted Stripes Circus \u2013 Lord and Lady Flumperdinkle make a welcome return and mix with the crowd over the festival weekend.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saturday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Festival Workshop and Parade \u2013 get involved with making props then take part in a colourful parade through the village.<\/li><li>Little Fawn Theatre \u2013 enter the magic world of a travelling puppet theatre in a 1950s caravan.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sunday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Clydebuilt Puppets \u2013 join this leading Scottish puppet theatre company for a workshop and a fun show.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About the main performers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Friday night<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>OBT consists of Tom Oakes (Ross Couper + Tom Oakes, Auvo Quartet) on guitars and wooden flute, Jon Bews (Malinky, James Yorkston, Cantrip) on five string fiddle and Daniel Thorpe (Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2010, Malinky, Tyde) on fiddle. Drawing on the music of Scotland combined with world music influences and new composition, OBT\u2019s dynamic performances work as well in an intimate acoustic setting or on a packed festival dancefloor.<\/li><li>For over a decade Sheelanagig have brought their foot-stomping folk tunes to audiences across the globe. Guitar, fiddle and double bass combined with the rhythmic energy of flute, drums and a bagful of joint-jumping tunes, means this quintet from South-West England create a real dynamic inherent in both their furious dance medleys as well as their interestingly arranged original pieces. Prepare yourself for \u201ca completely top night out.\u201d Mike Harding &#8211; Radio 2<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saturday night<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>To celebrate 21 years in the musical melting pot Findlay Napier released his album&nbsp;<em>Glasgow<\/em>&nbsp;in October 2017. The album features self-penned songs written with collaborator and album producer Boo Hewerdine and songs plucked from Glasgow&#8217;s past and present. Folk Radio UK said &#8220;laced with sadness and joy, melancholy and anger,&nbsp;this is a magnificent piece of work that&nbsp;both celebrates the city and underscores Napier as one of the finest songwriters and&nbsp;storytellers of the contemporary Scottish folk scene.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Last year Kinnaris Quintet released&nbsp;<em>Free One<\/em>, their much anticipated debut album, to rave reviews.
